15 Steps for Creating a YouTube Channel and Playlist
- Create an account at YouTube (click on sign in)
- Click on your name in the upper right corner and a menu of options will appear.
- Name your channel, select your category, and determine your audience (any Google+ user). Agree to the terms of service and then click the Done button.
- A Google+ page will automatically be created for your channel.
- Take a tour of your channel - click the next button to move through the tour.
- Edit your channel cover and your channel icon (it will take you to Google+ to do this). It may not appear on your YouTube channel immediately.
- Click on "What to Watch" under the YouTube logo on the left side of the screen and choose the "Education" category by clicking on the word "Education".
- Click on "Subscribe" and make your subscription public. You are now subscribed to the YouTube EDU channel.
- Click on "Primary and Secondary Education" on the right side of your screen. Choose several other YouTube channels to subscribe to. Notice that as you subscribe, the list on the left side of your screen will grow.
- Click on Browse Channels and type in a keyword in the search box. Explore what other channels are available. You can always unsubscribe if you change your mind. Notice that as you subscribe to channels, other channels are being suggested on the right side of the screen.
- Manage your subscriptions by clicking on that link on the left side of the screen. Choose how you want to be notified about updates for each Channel. Leave it blank to not have notifications or updates sent to you.
- Choose one channel, click on the Playlist link for that channel, and explore the playlists.
- Choose a playlist. Notice that there is a title and description of the playlist. There is also the list of videos that makeup the playlist that includes where the video is published and how long each video is. You can choose to play all videos, or just choose the ones that sound interesting. You can also share the playlist in many ways - including embedding it on your website. Finally, you can like the playlist and it will show up in your activity.
- Choose a video to watch. Clicking on the Share link will allow you to either link to the video or embed it on your website. Click on the "Add to" link and add to your watch later list. Or, add this to a new playlist by typing in the name of the playlist. For your students, you will want to make it Public. You can choose to have the playlist shared on your Google+ site or not.
- Go back to your channel. All of your activity is recorded in your Activity Feed area. You can add your thoughts which could be instructions for watching a video and then embed a playlist or video.
